Shenzhen Splendid China: See All of China’s Attractions in 3 Hours
23 October, 2009Spreading over an area of 30 hectares, Splendid China is the largest miniature park in the world. 84 replicas of typical Chinese ancient buildings, natural landscapes and folk dwellings, which reflect the Chinese history and culture of 5000 years, have been constructed on a scale of 1:15. Among them are the Great Wall of China, the Imperial Palace, the Temple of Confucius, the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.
The park also hosts several shows depicting various events in Chinese History (e.g. a horse riding show depicting a battle led by Genghis Khan), Chinese Cultural Show, etc. Some of the shows are only performed on weekends.
In just 2-3 hours and you would have skimmed through the history of China and the various attractions around the country. Definitely one of the must-go places if you are in Shenzhen.
They had also replicated the famous Xi-an Terracotta Army in its entirety – impressive. No details are left out – the soldiers’ expressions, the carriages’ design and even soldiers which were missing an arm, head or weapons due to erosion and time – all completely duplicated in this miniature display.
If you want to, you can also terrorize these tiny occupants but don’t destroy their buildings please. 🙂 Also check out the Great Mosque structure in the park – however be careful as its roof and tiles are falling apart.
Hungry after exploring all of China in a few hours? There is a foodcourt near the entrance of Splendid China. It operates on a coupon payment system. You buy a 10 Yuan or 50 Yuan coupon from the cashier and you hand it over to the foodstalls selling different Chinese cuisine.
Unfortunately, the food does not taste very good and is quite oily. Only the noodle is edible but still quite oily. Don’t buy the bread with meat pieces shown in the picture below – you will spend most of your time chewing the hard bread instead of meat.
The nearest Metro station to Splendid China is 华侨城 Hua Qiao Cheng (Overseas Chinese Town) on Line 1. From here, follow the signages to Splendid China (about 5 minutes walk).
- Entrance tickets: 120 Yuan (this ticket also grants you access to the Chinese Folk Culture Village)
- Opening hours: 9am to 6pm
Check out the official Splendid China website for more info.
