The Hidden Gem of Tranquility: Lloyd’s Inn
25 April, 2016Weekends are very precious and Llyod’s Inn Boutique Hotel is a perfect place to end your hectic week away from the hustle and bustle.
Getting to Lloyd’s Inn
If you’re walking from Somerset MRT Station, it takes approximately 8 to 10 minutes to get to the hotel. You’ll be pleased to find that although this boutique hotel is located in the heart of Orchard Road, it’s atmosphere is peaceful, exactly what you need after a long and tiring week.
Located at 2 Lloyd Road, this quaint boutique hotel is cleverly tucked away such that you won’t be able to tell that you’re only a heartbeat away from Kiliney Road and a stone’s throw away from the ever-busy Orchard Road. Past the entrance, you’ll gaze upon the dipping pool and garden deck. With cozy sunbeds and inviting outdoor lounges, one will definitely be tempted to kick back and relax with a glass of mojito. Encompassing these spaces is a path made of large stone slabs, making it the perfect trail for a romantic stroll with your significant other.
The front desk clerk warmly greeted us once we entered the reception area. We noticed that places of interest in the vicinity are clearly marked on a map here, which is extremely useful for tourists. After a seamless check-in, the clerk brought us to our room, and pointed out the outdoor pantry area. Lloyd’s Inn’s design is clean and minimalistic, which creates a zen-like ambience no matter which part of the hotel you’re situated at.
The Big Garden Room @ Lloyd’s Inn
One of the more premium rooms available at Lloyd’s Inn is the “Big Garden Room”. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and yukatas – Japanese kimonos are provided for casual wear. The bed is equipped with fluffy pillows and a snug duvet, with light switches placed within reach. The room also comes with a mini fridge, hair dryer, an ironing board and some snacks.
The outdoor shower area is a unique feature of the Big Garden Room, and allows you to gaze at the night sky while you shower. Another alluring aspect of the room, which incidentally, is how it got its name, is the outdoor garden area. With large ferns and stone slabs serving as an organic backdrop, you can unwind with food, drinks, and hearty conversations.
Another feature you wouldn’t normally find in other hotels is an outdoor pantry. The pantry is conveniently located on the second floor next to the lift. Hot beverages like coffee, tea, and Milo are free, but do bring along the mugs provided in your room. There are also dining areas where hotel guests can emulate authentic communal living by dining together. Its alfresco setting brings much appeal and guests will find themselves hard-pressed not to partake in a quasi-backpacker’s inn tradition of mingling with one another.
If you’re itching to try the various delicacies and local cuisine of Singapore, you can satisfy your cravings at the nearby Killiney Road. You’ll find several local favourites like warm kaya toasts with soft-boiled eggs and laksa! As Lloyd’s Inn doesn’t serve breakfast in the hotel itself, complimentary breakfast coupons redeemable at Killiney Kopitiam at Killiney Road are given out to guests. Another complimentary meal option available with an additional top up fee of S$7 is brunch at Freshly Baked by Le Bijoux, which offers Western food.
The days of avoiding to stay in hotels in town to escape the crowd are long gone. Revamped hotels, with innovative and clever designs like Lloyd’s Inn are emerging. If you’re looking for a chill weekend, be sure to book your stay early with Lloyd’s Inn as their 34 rooms are often snatched up quickly.
