Living the Dream: Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore
1 March, 2016Getting to our #JenDreamcation
What better way to end the week than to be greeted in style by a black Mercedes with a personal chauffeur to pick you up from your work place and be sent straight to Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore’s doorstep for a JenDreamcation?
Located at Orchard Gateway, it is almost impossible to get lost when you’re looking for Hotel Jen as it is situated at such a convenient location. There are several ways you can take to reach Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore if you’re traveling there by public transport. If you are taking the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), you can take exit C from Somerset MRT Station to Orchard Gateway’s Lift Lobby A. If you are coming from Changi Airport, you could choose to take Bus 36 at Terminal 2 and alight at Somerset Road Bus Station after 27 stops, the bus stop is positioned across from the hotel. The bus trip will take about 60 minutes and cost approximately SGD 2.
Hotel Jen’s concierge is located directly above Orchard Gateway on the 10th floor, with the shopping centre literally below you. Upon arriving at Hotel Jen in the Mercedes, the check in process was fast and seamless. As part of the JenDreamcation, all you’ll have to do is put a $100 deposit, and you’ll be given your room card key promptly. The receptionist explained that we were being checked into the Panorama Club Room, the best room the hotel has to offer. Priced at $480 a night, the Panorama Club Room is simply beautiful.
The Panorama Club Room @ Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore
Once we stepped into the large and spacious Panorama Club Room, we were greeted with a large television with a personalized welcome message, which we felt was very thoughtful. With glass windows surrounding the bedroom, you will have a panoramic 180-degree view of either Orchard or Somerset Road from the king sized bed! On top of that, instead of having conventional blinds like most hotels, Hotel Jen’s Panorama Club Room is fitted with remote control blinds that can be controlled while in bed!
The en-suite bathroom is very spacious as well; it features a separate shower from the bathtub. Depending on whether you want a quick shower or to laze in the bathtub, Hotel Jen really knows how to pamper its guests. The room is equipped with the usual coffee, tea and bottled water. What surprised us was that we also had free access to a Nespresso machine with 5 complimentary capsules as well as some traditional local biscuits. There was a complimentary large cup of fresh fruits provided in mini fridge as well.
Facilities and Amenities @ Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore
As we stayed in the Panorama Club Room as part of the JenDreamcation experience, this also meant that we were automatically qualified as Club Guests. You can qualify as a Club Guest if you’re a Shangri-la member, if you’re staying in any of the Club Rooms, or if you top a fee if you’re staying in any of the other types of room in Hotel Jen. Being a Club Guest means slightly more privileges for you. Other than access to the 24-hour fitness center, the 47-metre rooftop infinity pool overlooking the city, and the rooftop bar (BayWatch@Jen), you will also get access to the Club Lounge, which is located on the 19th floor.
Amenities offered in the Club Lounge include complimentary snacks and drinks all day long, with a special breakfast buffet (which we will talk more about later), complimentary daily evening cocktail and 2 hours of complimentary use of meeting room suites per stay, which are bookable in advance. You can even have 1 piece of laundry pressing per stay for a special occasion!
Makan @ Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore
Breakfast is served daily in buffet style from 0800-1130 at Makan@Jen, located on the 10th floor. The breakfast spread is one of the widest we’ve come across. Apart from local food like Mee Rebus and Roti Prata, there is also your usual breadbasket with pastries and a cheese platter. Other cuisines such as Korean, Western, Japanese and even a salad bar are offered during the breakfast buffet. There are live stations available, where chefs are assigned to different stations like the egg station, where you can choose how you want your eggs to be done (sunny side up or omelette style) and what ingredients you want to have it with. As Makan@Jen takes on an open kitchen concept, diners get to enjoy watching a ‘live’ show of the chefs cooking.
Being a Club Guest, we decided to have our breakfast at the Club Lounge on the 19th floor instead. While there is a larger spread of food at Makan@Jen, the ambience on the 19th floor was much more relaxing. There were fewer guests in the Club Lounge due to its exclusivity as well as a spectacular view overlooking the bustling city.
What really impressed us was the amount of effort the staff at Hotel Jen went through to please their guests. As our stay coincided with the Singapore Air Show, there were many Korean pilots staying at the hotel. We found out that the Kimchi, which we saw at the breakfast buffet, was actually specially brought in to cater to the Koreans to make them feel at home. Such hospitality is really commendable.
Aside from all that we have mentioned, the highlight of the JenDreamcation was the private dinner that Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore arranged for us. A small and cozy area was cordoned off for us to enjoy our private dinner, which included a personal chef and waiter assigned to us. We enjoyed a spread of BayWatch@Jen’s poolside menu, the difference was that we had a personal chef barbequing the food for us, isn’t that lovely!
There was also champagne and wine prepared for us. Some of our favorites during the dinner was the Grilled Half Boston Lobster served with red pesto sauce as well as the Grilled River Prawns served with lime.
With a chef barbequing our food on the spot and an attentive waiter taking our orders and serving our food piping hot, there was nothing more that we could have asked for. We were informed that there usually isn’t any plating for the BBQ dishes. However, the chef did it for us that night to make the dinner more enjoyable for us. With delicious food, a nice bottle of wine, and excellent service, there was no better way to end the night.
#JenDreamcation Contest
The Dreamcation by Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore definitely made our weekend a memorable one. With impeccable service, a grand room and plenty of facilities to enjoy, we felt pampered from the start till the very end. One thing that really left an impression on us was the attention to detail that Hotel Jen pays to their guests. Taking their guests’ feedback into account and translating them into practical solutions separates Hotel Jen from other hotels that we have visited. They will go the extra mile to make their guests’ stay a comfortable and enjoyable one!
