Exploring the Houses of Plantation Bay Resort & Spa

27 November, 2012

Besides sea sports activities and indoor activities at Plantation Bay Resort & Spa, guests can also keep themselves occupied by exploring the entire resort – checking out the beautiful houses that are spread around the resort’s lagoons as well as standalone clusters with their own freshwater swimming pool.

Plantation Bay Resort & Spa offers a whole range of room categories catering to different group sizes (whether you are travelling as a family with kids or just a couple on a romantic weekend retreat from the busy Cebu city) and budget.

The Water’s Edge Room is the most sought after room in the resort (see picture below – the bottom deck of rooms closest to the lagoon) and Plantation Bay Resort & Spa proudly promotes the room as being just 0 – 2 seconds from the water as guests can literally jump off their balcony/porch into the lagoon for a swim! Plantation Bay Resort and Spa’s daily rack rate for the Water’s Edge Room is US $270 ++ for peak period and US $220++ for non-peak period.

The picture below shows what a Lagoon Side room at Chenonceaux House (US $250++ peak/US $200++ non-peak) looks like – our room is the top deck of the house (on top of the Water’s Edge rooms) and according to Plantation Bay & Spa, just 1 minute or less from the water. I wouldn’t recommend jumping off your balcony into the lagoon – a leisure walk from your room to the lagoon should take you less than a minute. :-).

The interior of the Lagoon Side room is exactly the same as that of a Water’s Edge room – the premium is for the proximity to the lagoon and the convenience of a quick dip into the water whenever you need it. Well, you can also do a quick dip in the room’s spacious bathtub if you want. You won’t feel cramped in any of Plantation Bay Resort & Spa’s rooms with such generous space planning. These rooms can accommodate a maximum of 4 persons (recommended capacity: 2 adults and 2 children) – however do note that charges apply for 3rd and 4th adult.

The sunset and sunrise view from the Plantation Bay Resort & Spa’s bedrooms are just amazing – there is also a spacious balcony with comfortable porch chairs where you can relax with a cup of tea and a book or just take a nap after a long day of activities at the Plantation Bay Resort & Spa.

The Poolside room (US $210++ peak/US $160++ non-peak) are located in their own clusters away from the lagoons. There are 2 main clusters – the Windward Cluster (around the Windward Freshwater Swimming Pool) and Piazza Palermo (with its own freshwater swimming pool and also very close to the Palermo Cafe). The rooms are promoted as being just 5 – 10 seconds from the water – in this case the freshwater pool not the lagoon (which is just 2 minutes walk away). Each of these clusters are designed according to different themes e.g. the Piazza Palermo are designed like houses in Italy (see picture below).

Despite its size, getting around Plantation Bay & Spa is really easy and convenient – you can choose to stroll along the beaches of the lagoon or just hail one of the jeepney shuttle that drives around the resort. You can hail anywhere you like – there are no designated shuttle stops; as long as they can see you when they drive by, they will stop for you and you can go anywhere in the resort.

If you are done with your meals in any of the restaurants, simply ask the restaurant staff to call for a jeepney shuttle. You don’t have to wait by the roadside – the shuttle driver will come into the restaurant when he arrives. If you are checking out, simply call for a shuttle from your room and even if you are at the second floor like us (Lagoon Side Room at the second floor of Chenonceaux House, the driver will come up to your room to help you with your luggage! No tipping is required due to the resort’s strict no tipping policy.

Do note that during peak periods e.g. around 8-9am or 6-7pm or when there is an event in the resort, you might have to wait a long time for your shuttle so take a walk and enjoy the tranquility of the resort and the beautiful beaches and lagoons along the way. 🙂

Another form of transportation available at Plantation Bay Resort & Spa is the Calesa – a horse-drawn carriage that goes around the resort during weekends – you can hitch a ride around the resort just for the fun of it. However, you won’t be able to call for a calesa in advance. Just wait out in front of Palermo restaurant if you would like to take a fun calesa ride.
