Fine Dining Experience in the Sky with Singapore Cable Car
25 December, 2012If you are planning a romantic dinner out in Singapore but yet want a very unique experience, you can consider the Sky Dining experience offered by Singapore Cable Car and Jewel Box up on Mount Faber. As the name suggests, you and your partner will be enjoying a 3-course meal on a private cable car cabin that will traverse the route between Mount Faber and Sentosa cable car station.
The cable car cabin where you will be having your dinner will depart from Mount Faber cable car station (just beside the Jewel Box). As part of your Sky Dining experience, you can request for a complimentary 2-way cable car transfer to and from Harbourfront cable car station. The Harbourfront station is just a few minutes walk from the Harbourfront MRT station (Circle Line and North-East Line).
Your Sky Dining experience will start at 6pm. Upon arrival at the Mount Faber cable car station, register your attendance at the lounge just beside the Moonstone restaurant. The sky diners will depart on a first come first served basis (depending on who registers their attendance first). While waiting for your turn, you and your partner will be offered a glass of champagne or mocktail each.
If you are an Angry Bird fan, do check out the Angry Birds Christmas wonderland with Christmas photopoints, Angry Birds iPad Christmas game and other exciting activities. There are also Angry Birds Christmas themed ‘live’ game stations during the weekends. These are just beside the cable car station.
The Sky Dining Diamond Set starts at $218.00++ per couple and is available daily (except on Public Holidays). You can also request for a Floral Cabin which will be decorated according to the theme you select (there are 3 themes to choose from) and it costs $488++ per couple.
You will be served a 3-course set menu (you will be required to indicate your preference of main course during booking). Each course is served every 30 minutes (the time required for the cable car to go from the Mount Faber cable car station to Sentosa cable car station and back)
For the appetiser, we were served with Pan-Fried King Scallop with Beetroot Baby Spinach Salad with Feta Cheese and Walnuts, Raspberry Vinaigrette and Warm Brew Soup – Essences of Chicken with Black Truffle and Poached Quail Egg. The ingredients e.g. scallop were fresh and the essences of chicken soup tasted really good.
Upon arrival back at Mount Faber station, just sit back and watch the staff clear the appetiser plates and replace them with your main courses – they have to do it while the cable car does its turnaround and the cable car is always moving (they have only just minutes to do this swap, refill your water and another staff will take your photos).
Our main course comprises of a Lime Sorbet, choice of Confit of Norwegian Salmon and Grilled King Prawn Green Pea Mash, Crustacean Sauce or Slow Roasted Fillet Mignon with Pan-Fried Foie Gras Garlic Mashed Potato, Haricot Beans, Natural Jus (choose during the booking process). You can also request for chicken dishes (but subject to availability). You will also be served a glass of house wine each.
There is no need to rush through your meals – there are more than enough time to eat (unless you eat very slow :-)).
The process repeats itself with the replacement of the main course plates with dessert when the cable car returns to the Mount Faber station and you will be served with a Chilled Passion Fruit Cheese Cake, Caramel Vodka for dessert and a freshly brewed cup of Coffee or Tea.
One of the highlights of the Sky Dining experience at Singapore Cable Car (besides the food) is the view of Resorts World Sentosa and the surroundings and of course the luxury of a private cable car cabin for a romantic date or a fun evening out.
The ride from the Mount Faber station to Sentosa station can get a bit stuffy (no air flow into the cable car despite us opening the window as much as we can) but the ride back is quite cooling – i guess it could be due to the wind directions. There is no music other than the occasional Angry Birds-Cable Car commercial ad that comes on your onboard screen. It tells the story of how the Angry Birds come all the way to Singapore Cable Car – quite interesting but after the second time it is played, it gets a bit irritating but you can mute it.
The Sky Dining experience is planned in such a way you get to see the day-to-night transition of the surrounding area as the sun sets – when you are enjoying your appetisers, you get a great day view and by the time you tuck into your dessert, the lights of Resorts World Sentosa are just beautiful!
Also be on the lookout for the Angry Birds Cable Car – which gave the impression that the green pig cable car is being chased by the red and yellow angry birds.

27 December, 2012 at 10:36 pmI was just walking past the Jewel Box yesterday but did not know that the cable cars are for dining as well. I thought it was just a sightseeing thing. I hope the car does not bounce too much or you’ll have your food all over the place 🙂

6 June, 2013 at 9:33 pmwhat if i need to pee during the dinner?
den how?

7 June, 2013 at 10:38 amHi jane- i recommend that you pee before you board the cable car because once you get in, the only way to pee (if it is really urgent) is to get off the cable car at either the Mt Faber or Sentosa stop, leaving your dining partner in the cable car alone for one stretch of the journey and then joining back when the cable car comes around again. 🙂

27 March, 2014 at 8:41 amI don’t think it can be certified halal because the restaurant has an alcohol license.
