Review of Cavalia Singapore – Amazing Acrobatic (Horses & Humans) Performance under the White Theatre Tent at Marina Bay Sands14 August, 2014
Showing in Singapore from August 12 2014 to September 14 2014, Cavalia innovatively integrates acrobatics, dance, aerial stunts and horse equestrian tricks to present an exciting and spectacular show. Considering that the show is conceived by one of the co-founders of famed Cirque du Soleil – Normand Latourelle, you can expect quite a fair bit of Cirque du Soleil style acrobatic performances.
What really makes this different from the usual Cirque du Soleil acrobatics is how Cavalia seamlessly synergises the performance between horses and humans. My favorite is the part where the acrobats performed various horse tricks while strapped to a horse running at top speed across the stage – at one instance, he is standing on a horse and the other instance, he looks like he is falling off the horse strapped to one side of it. And at the same time, they were able to inject some humour into the performance.
The stage set is just as amazing – at one instance the spectator is brought to a desert and the next a beautiful mountainous scenery with sea – yes water on stage! The horses racing across open water just makes the show so interesting; front row spectators – expect to get wet with all the splashes (towels are provided for first row spectators during intermission).
Supported by state-of-the-art multimedia, Cavalia is an epic adventure, a fantastic demonstration of horsemanship that transports the audience into virtual environments. The horses cavort with the many artists in front of a constantly changing digital background projected onto a 60 metre-wide screen. Each image projected on the immense cyclorama is first hand-painted and then finalised by graphic designers. To project these breathtaking backdrops, Cavalia uses 20 projectors as powerful as those illuminating the grandest movie theaters.

Getting to Cavalia Singapore – White Theatre Tent besides Marina Bay Sands
Do note that Cavalia Singapore performance is not showing in the Marina Bay Sands Theatre. If you are reaching by MRT, alight at Bayfront MRT station and come out to the Marina Bay Sands Shoppes – walk to one end of the Shoppes towards Carnivore NOT towards the ArtScience Museum/Marina Bay Sands Theatre/Rasapura food court. Once you reach Carnivore, walk a few more metres to step out of the Shoppes and you should be able to see the big White Theatre Tent along Bayfront Avenue.
Do also note that the admission tent to Cavalia is facing the Marina Bay and the CBD area so if you are walking from the Marina Bay Sands hotel above ground, you will have to make a big round the large tentage area to reach the admission tent. The Big Top under which Cavalia presents its performance, accommodates up to 2,000 spectators.
