Dining at Flavours at Zhongshan Park and 21 on Rajah Brunch Buffet
28 July, 2013Flavours at Zhongshan Park at Ramada Hotel Singapore
[*Updated as of May 2016: Flavours At Zhongshan Park only has Kueh Pie Tie in their revamped menu. Call them to find out more!]
Ramada Hotel Singapore features an all-day dining restaurant, Flavours at Zhongshan Park, offering Straits Chinese and western cuisines. Located on level one of the hotel, overlooking the Reception area, Flavours at Zhongshan Park is well-known for authentic Straits Chinese cuisine coupled with a carefully selected mix of international and western favourites. Guests can choose from the a la carte menu, Tapas-style portions to share or simply as a single-serving portion.
For starters/appetisers, I strongly recommend the Kueh Pie Tie – a braised sweet turnip with pork belly & prawns in traditional pastry crust ($10.90). Unlike the Kueh Pie Tie we find in other restaurants or home-made ones, the Kueh Pie Tie crust does not crumble easily after the first bite. The ingredients are very savoury and there is a good mix of soft and crispy parts with each bite of the Kueh Pie Tie. Must try!
For Asian specialities, the Chili King Prawns “Singapore Style” – Succulent Prawns Stir-Fried in a Savoury, Tomato & Chili Gravy ($22.90) is awesome too! The prawns are fresh and the gravy is very very savoury (as described in the title) and addictive – tastes better than some of the chili crab gravy out there. There is free flow of fragrant rice with this dish so you can eat it with the gravy but what would make this dish perfect is if Flavours at Zhongshan Park provided or sold Mantou (small fried buns) with it.
For Western cuisine, I tried the Chicken Cordon Bleu – Crumbed Chicken Fillet filled with Smoked Ham & Melted Cheese served with Crispy Fries ($22.90). The serving is very generous and the chicken fillet tasted good (but some parts of it are quite dry – if you are eating with someone who ordered the Chili Prawn, you may want to do your own Asian-Western fusion by dipping parts of the fillet in the chili prawn gravy 🙂 this is my own preference – up to you really).
We rounded up our meal with desserts – Durian Pengat with Pandan Jelly – Peel Fresh Durian with Gula Melaka & Pandan Jelly ($10.90) – this dessert has a very rich durian flavour (as expected) and the Gula Melaka gives it a sweet and sour taste.
If you don’t like durian but just want a sweet dessert to end off your meal – You just can’t go wrong with a dessert like The Walnut Brownie – Warm Brownie with Walnuts Served with Vanilla Ice Cream ($15.90).
I heard that Flavours at Zhongshan Park is also quite famous for their Nonya Claypot Specialties e.g. Nonya Ikan Kuah Lada – Specialty Nonya Dish Originating from Malacca with Steamed Stingray & Vegetables in Spicy Tamarind Gravy ($23.90) – from the 2 chilis indicated in the menu, i guess it can be quite spicy!
