Ion Orchard Swensen’s Ice-Cream Buffet

In an earlier post, I had introduced my readers to Waffle Buffet @ Eunos Post Office.  I will be writing about another unique buffet in Singapore – Swensen’s Ice-Cream Buffet!

As part of Ion Orchard Swensen’s opening special, it is offering a One for One Ice Cream and Dessert Buffet deal.  Original cost for a Swensen All You Can Eat Ice-Cream & Dessert Buffet is $18.90 per pax.  Now, when you present the coupon below, you get to eat the buffet for $22.25 for 2 persons! (inclusive of 7% GST and 10% Service Charge)  This offer is valid til 30 Sept and the buffet can be consumed anytime during its opening hours.

If you want to save the environment, you can also show them the e-coupon before ordering.  Do go early to avoid long queues.  The restaurant is quite empty at about 10am when we started our buffet feast.  By the time we left at 11:30am, there are about 25 people in the queue!!

1-for-1 Swensen Ice-Cream Buffet

The seemingly endless ice-cream flavors should be able to keep you occupied for most of your time there.  If not, there are many cakes – oreo cheese cake, apple tart, chocolate pecan pie etc.  There are also waffles and different types of toppings to match your tastes for ice-cream.

You can also indulge yourself in the chocolate fondue with marshmallows and brownies.

Swensen's Ice cream & Dessert Buffet

For an overview of what the Swensen Ice-Cream Buffet, you can refer to their menu which listed all the different ice-cream flavor and toppings available.

There is also a special feature in this Swensen Ice-Cream Buffet – the Chop Shop.  You let the staff know what are your preferred flavors and they will chop and mix all the flavors with your favorite toppings to create your own unique ice-cream flavor!  We mixed Milo flavor ice-cream with chocolate chips and honey – Yummy!

We didn’t realize how many rounds of ice-cream, cake, waffles we had until we did this picture!  Wow!

By the way, the flower balloon, at the last picture, is free courtesy of a balloon maker doing her rounds in Swensens, who seemed to be able to sculpt anything from a normal balloon.

Went on saturday 4.30p.m. the buffet spread is divided into 4 sections: cakes, waffles, toppings and ice cream.
Good points: The IDEA that we get unlimited helpings.
Bad points: We don’t. Had to queue for almost 1 hour to get waffles and ice cream. Severely understaffed. Things run our and don’t get replenished. Worse of all, the whole gelato section broke down!
So, go if you are into: queueing [which I think most singaporeans are ;) ]; gorging yourself with cakes and dessert of so-so quality (cos the nicer ones are always snapped up and don’t get replenished); or eating desserts at 10a.m. (cos i imagine thats the only time where its not so crowded).

@Jessen, LLY, Joanne

For such a price, the Swensen’s Ice-Cream Buffet is definitely worth a try.

However as Meiling had pointed out, you have to go very early (like i did) so that you can enjoy the full experience (all the cakes, ice-cream, dessert being available) and no queueing needed. :-)

7 Tingyi August 24, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Hi Qi Ting, yes plain water is free, it is inclusive in the service charge.

8 Zhiqiang August 24, 2009 at 11:14 pm

@Qi Ting

They will provide you with a jar of water with glasses and you can ask for a refill if not enough. However, you might want to reserve your stomach for the yummy desserts and ice-cream. :-)

By any chance do u know the average waiting time on sat evening?

Reply

18 Zhiqiang September 2, 2009 at 7:59 am

@Kirby, not sure about that but I heard that 3-4pm is the super peak period since that’s the best time to have a break with cake and ice-cream.

I suggest either going super early (10am) or late (after 8pm) to beat the crowds.

Hi does this work on weekends? Planning to go on Sunday, around 6 in the evening, good/bad idea?

Reply

21 Zhiqiang September 4, 2009 at 10:36 am

@Lionel, Yes this promotion works on weekends; we went on at Saturday 10am

Sunday 6pm is a bad idea cos’ most people will come at 3-4pm for tea and will stay long til after dinner (6-7pm) to make their money worthwhile. I would do that if I were them. Naturally this will result in super long Qs at 5-6pm.

So perhaps, 7.30-8pm might be better though its a bit late and not good to sleep with stomach full of ice-cream :-)

Looks good. Maybe I should go review the place as well. Any idea if this is going to be just a promotion or a standard affair?

Hello, I may be going at 22nd or 24th, which is a Tuesday/Thursday, is afternoon around 1pm or 2pm okay for the buffet? As in, will there be long queue and stuff?

Reply

37 Zhiqiang September 16, 2009 at 11:36 pm

@Charlene, BTW this is not Swensens reservation desk so I couldnt advise on daily queuing time :-) Anyway from my own experience, most Swensens outlets are crowded during lunchtimes – due to the 1 for 1 Lunch Treat. I suggest going during Saturday morning 10am (like what we did) for the best experience – no queues + fresh ice-creams. Hope this helps :-)

i went for the buffet on a sunday at ard 11.30am. its not packed yet. so the queue for the ice-cream was fast. there were much varieties and toppings too. after we took our 1st time for the ice cream, the crowd then started to come.
