Review of Feliz Telcon Hotel Seogwipo in Jeju South Korea

12 December, 2014

We stayed at Seogwipo (the southern part of Jeju island) during our 4D3N self-drive trip around Jeju island. Hotels are not cheap at Jeju – thankfully we found one that cost only about S$100+ per night (for 2 persons) – Feliz Telcon Hotel. The Jeju GPS coordinate for Feliz Telcon Hotel is 7492008. Driving from the Jeju airport to Feliz Telcon hotel will take about 1+ hour.

You can take a No. 600 airport bus from Jeju International Airport and alight at the New Kyungnam Hotel stop – the bus journey will take about 1 hour 20 minutes. From the New Kyungnam Hotel stop, you can cross the road to take a taxi (approx fare: 3000 KRW) to reach Feliz Telcon hotel. Please note that I didn’t take the airport bus – these are instructions from Feliz Telcon hotel. You can also take a taxi from the airport to Feliz Telcon hotel (fixed fare: 35000 KRW).

Important Point to Note: When booking a room at Feliz Telcon Hotel via third party sites like Agoda, Booking.com or even directly with the hotel, make sure you explicitly indicate you are booking the room for 2 persons and have it on the written/printed on the hotel booking confirmation form. When we checked in, they saw that we booked 2 rooms and have 4 persons and tried to ask for payment for 2 persons (on top of what we have already paid Agoda – the full hotel rate for the 4 nights we will be there). Thankfully, we have it on the record with Agoda that we have 2 persons staying in each room (and they have that on their record too). I saw a few reviews on Agoda complaining about the additional payment so do take note. Having your hotel confirmation indicated as double room is not enough – it must show that you have paid for 2 persons to stay in the room.

Don’t expect a Shangri-La for Feliz Telcon Hotel – this is perhaps a one or two-star hotel (if it even has a hotel star classification system). There is an elevator and overall the hotel is quite clean and tidy. No breakfast is provided.

The rooms are basic but very very clean. Quite spacious too. There is a fridge, TV, table and chairs in the room – you can also boil water with the in-room kettle. There is also a hairdryer so I would say the room is quite well provided for. The bed is ok – quite comfortable.

There is no wardrobe/cupboard in the room. 2 hangers are provided on the clothes rack so if you have a lot of clothes you want to hang, you might want to consider bringing some hangers with you.

The bathroom is quite spacious. Toothpaste, Shampoo and Body Wash are provided. I think Toothbrush is not provided so bring your own and if you need hair conditioner and your own type of shampoo, bring travel sized ones along.

Towels are provided but they are really small – more than hand towels than bath towels. That is the only complaint I have of Feliz Telcon hotel. Other than that, I think it is quite value for money and location (in terms of where it is located in Seogwipo) is quite good too.

There is free parking along the road outside Feliz Telcon hotel. Do note that it can be quite challenging to find parking in the evenings. Feliz Telcon hotel is located right in the middle of the food street but do manage your expectations on what does a food street in Jeju mean – it doesn’t mean cheap roadside food stalls and eateries. There are a number of restaurants – BBQ pork, seafood and other Korean food in this food street – I will recommend where to eat in Jeju (for good Jeju Pork Ramen, BBQ Black Pork and Ginseng Chicken) in my next few blog posts (but not here in this food street outside Feliz Telcon hotel).

The Seogwipo Olleh market is very near to the Feliz Telcon hotel – about a 10 minute walk away – ask the reception for help and a map of the area and Seogwipo. The Feliz Telcon hotel reception speaks passable English – it depends on who is rostered to be at the front desk – for some staff, I was able to have a basic conversation of the best eating places in Seogwipo and the GPS coordinates to get there; for others, it is quite challenging to start a conversation even.
