Experiencing Nightlife in Bangkok

25 March, 2011

The city of Bangkok is famed the world over for its lively and often exotic evening atmosphere. Easily accessible with many cheap flights to Bangkok available from carriers across the globe, there is no excuse for missing out.

A visit to the Thai tourist capital would not be complete without spending an evening soaking up the local ambience in one of the area many bars, clubs and other entertainment venues.

While the reputation of this area means that some visitors feel that there will be little to do of an evening that truly suits their style, nothing could be further from the truth, with Bangkok nightlife offering something for all tastes from the tame to the try-everything.

Dinner Cruises on the River of Kings

For a gentle beginning to your Bangkok nightlife experience why not head out for a dinner cruise along the city’s Chao Praya River – choose from a selection of vessels from modern cruisers to wooden barges and head off along the “River of Kings” to sample some top local cuisine.

Riverside Cocktails

After disembarking from your dinner boat, why not stop along the banks of the Chao Praya and take cocktails at one of a selection of upmarket establishments in this area, many of which offer smooth jazz a backdrop to cocktail sipping and chat in the early evening before becoming more lively as the night wears on.

Ladyboy Cabaret

If you want to see another side to Bangkok, then the “ladyboy” cabarets are simply unmissable. With these transsexual performers offering top notch entertainment, packed with high production value performance and stunning sets and costumes the shows are a real spectacle to behold.

Rooftop Barhop

If you prefer to ease yourself into the Bangkok scene then a few drink may be the way to go – although the faint hearted will wish to steer clear of the famed go-go bars at least in the early stages.

A good idea for those hoping to rise above the Bangkok street scene is to head for one of the city’s selection of rooftop venues. Great choices include Vertigo, Nest, Gazebo and 360 where an upmarket crowd mingles in sumptuous contemporary surroundings.

Get the Lowdown on the Go-Gos

Those seeking entertainment that is strictly in the adult area can head for the city’s famed Go-Go bars which line the streets of less salubrious areas. With all sorts on offer these are places where visitors should keep their wits about them – but can also offer an interesting introduction to an otherwise unseen area of Bankok life.

Try the Bangkok Clubbing Culture

Bangkok boasts a lively clubbing scene with free entry to many of the city’s late night venues. Head for Khao San Road for a good selection of lively venues, playing a selection of trance, house, drum and bass and more or head for Sukhumvit to schmooze in style with the cream of Bangkok clubbing society

Be a Bangkok Culture Vulture

For those who prefer their evening entertainments with a little more depth, Bangkok provides a selection of cultural offerings from traditional performers including the Siam Niramit traditional show and the Thai Puppet Theatre at the Askra.
