Krakow Greg and Tom Hostel Review
8 July, 2009Greg and Tom Hostel, Krakow
We stayed 2 nights at Greg and Tom Hostel in Krakow. We chose to stay in their new “hostel” – Greg and Tom Hostel 2 which turned out to be an apartment with 4 double rooms and shared bathrooms and toilets. There was also a kitchen, living room with Cable TV and dining room, which we barely used. There is a sofa and cupboard inside our spacious room too.
Greg and Tom Hostel 2 is about a 8-Minute walk from the main hostel. To use their free Wi-fi, we have to go back to Greg and Tom Hostel living room. There are also free internet computer terminals for those without their own-internet-surfing-device and an LCD TV with lots of DVDs. The reception had also tonnes of brochures covering not just Krakow but also other cities e.g. Budapest and Prague so if you are doing last-minute backpacking and has yet to book any accommodation, this will be a very useful resource for you.
The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Upon arriving, they will serve you with a welcome drink – iced apple, orange juice or just plain water and biscuits (which we completely wiped out :-p) which is a welcome relief after a 2-Hour easyJet flight and luggage moveabout. And that’s not all, they will also provide you with a quick orientation around Krakow Town and our accommodation. They also gave very good recommendations for places where we can settle our meals as well as tours to keep us occupied.
The main gripe we had is that there is No Lift on both hostels so we have to drag our luggage up and down when we check-in and out (the reception is situated at Level 2 but the ground floor is Level 0! – making it 3 floors to carry up our luggages). I think I had carried the equivalent of about 35kg of luggage (ZQ + TY) up a total of 9 Floors and down a total of 9 Floors.
They also have special activities every night. For our first night – Saturday, there is free Polish specialty dinner (buffet style!) which last from 7 to 9 PM. Mainly cold dishes – different type of ham, cheese and some hot tomato soup.
The breakfast spread was similar to this. On our second night – Sunday, there is free salad dinner which we skipped for a good old restaurant meal.
We rate Greg and Tom Hostel:
- Location (10-min walk from Krakow Glowny train station): 3/5
- Facilities (no lifts! otherwise free internet, DVD, breakfast): 4/5
- Staff (helpful and friendly): 5/5
- Cleanliness: 5/5
- Value (only 130zł/room): 4/5
Very deserving of Hostelworld.com No. 1 Hostel in 2007 and 2008!
