Review of The Pasta Shop by Sakae

28 November, 2009

The Pasta Shop by SakaeWho says Sakae only serves sushi? There are a number of non-sushi Japanese food restaurants under the umbrella of its parent company Apex-Pal, one of which is The Pasta Shop by Sakae.

The Pasta Shop by Sakae serves a number of Western dishes e.g. burgers, pizza, pasta cooked in an unique Japanese style.  According to Apex-Pal group, the Pasta Shop menu runs the whole gamut of freshly made Japanese pasta set to tantalise your taste buds.  While the uninitiated can go for the usual Bolognese pasta and cream sauce, pasta lovers can check out other more interesting dishes e.g. The Pasta Shop (TPS) wafu cream sauce, cold pasta with home-made wasabi sauce.

Even its drinks are quite interesting.  For $6.80, you can get a Mo Mo Tea Freeze which is a peach-flavored iced tea topped with a good mix of fruits e.g. mango, strawberry.  Very refreshing and be careful, it can give you quite a brain freeze if you drink it too quickly. 🙂

We also ordered the distinctive TPS Special Beef Burger ($12.90) which comes with crispy chicken pieces and a generous serving of fries.  The mixture of crispy chicken and tender beef just tastes perfect.  Unless you are prepared for a messy meal, I would suggest you cut the burger up in pieces instead of attempting to chomp off pieces of it.  The burger is rather thick and you will have to balance the lettuce, tomato slice, beef patty, crispy chicken pieces and of course the sandwich well to avoid creating a huge mess.  🙂

If you are a Sakae Sushi soft-shell crab fan i.e. everytime you visit a Sakae outlet, you must order either a soft-shell crab sushi or a California roll with soft-shell crab, then this next dish is a must-try for you.  The Chili Soft-Shell Crab pasta ($15.90) is just awesome.  Just like the Pasta Perfetto experience we had at Pizza Hut,  TPS’ Chili Soft-Shell Crab pasta had a very appealing presentation and very strong spicy sauce smell that just whets your appetite.

The crab is especially fresh and crispy and it complements the pasta perfectly in terms of taste.  The servings are also adequate for a good dinner meal.
