Unusual Hotels: “Oh My God!” Hotel in China

China’s Tianzi Garden Hotel

You might be wondering why am I showing you a picture of 3 Chinese gods, Fu (in the centre (in red) symbolizing fortune – Mandarin = 福), Lu (to your right (in green) symbolizing prosperity – Mandarin = 禄) and Shou (symbolizing longevity – Mandarin = 寿)

Fu Lu Shou

Well this is the structure of a hotel in China – Tianzi Garden Hotel (literal translation: Son of Heaven Hotel).  The peach in Shou’s left hand (see green circle in picture below), is actually a suite (the “Peach Suite”) within the hotel, the two holes in its front being windows.  You can identify the windows of the hotel rooms by the symbols in their robe (see blue circle).

The entrance to the hotel is situated around Shou’s right foot (see red circle).

This hotel is built in early 2000 and it has 10 storeys at a height of 41.6m.  According to China’s Xinhua News, this hotel was won a 2001 Guiness World Record for being the world’s ‘biggest image building’.  Voyage mentioned that this hotel is located in the Son of Heaven Garden (天子庄园), Yanjiao Economic-Technological Development Zone (燕郊经济技术开发区), Langfang.

The hotel’s official website @ http://www.tianzigarden.com (which in no longer working) had previously indicated that it takes only 20 minutes by Beijing Bus from World Trade Centre in Beijing to the Garden.

According to the Xinhua source, the rooms are smaller than typical hotel rooms but there are adequate facilities (they didnt elaborate more on it – i imagine it would be the beds, TV, restaurant).  There are 2 unique suites in the hotel – the Peach suite mentioned above and the 9th floor presidential suite.  The following picture shows what it looked like to look out one of those unique windows.

I couldnt find any other information on the hotel e.g  prices, room pictures.  There were some speculation that the developer might work on a new project featuring the images of 3 legendary Chinese history characters, 刘关张 from (Romance of 3 Kingdoms) 三国志 – shown in the poster below.

How would you feel sleeping in the “stomach of a god-lookalike building”?  Will you think twice before misbehaving? :-)

Wow, those guys are huge! Remins me a little of Mount Rushmore in the USA. I’ve spent quite a bit of time travelling through Central China and I’ve never seen anything like it. Great find.
