6 Day 5 Night Perth Itinerary – Shopping and Sights Within 30 Minutes of Central Perth
6 June, 2016Our toddler has just turned 1 year old and to celebrate this milestone, we decided to be a #ZUJIGarangExplorer by flying to Perth for a family holiday. This is “garang” (Singlish for brave) of us because it is the longest flight we have taken with our toddler (5 hours long!) – nonetheless, we took the garang route because we know Perth is one of the most baby-friendly tourist destination.
Of course, the ZUJI travel hot deals also makes the trip a lot more affordable. With the ZUJI FOURbulous month deals, we enjoyed a 5% rebate on our flight bookings and a 12% hotel coupon code for our Perth apartment booking – this saved us over $200! While this FOURbulous ZUJI deal is no longer available now, I have another lobang that can help you achieve even more savings than what I had. I will elaborate on this further down in this post.
This is our 6 Day 5 Night Perth itinerary but do note that this is not the usual Singaporean Perth travel itinerary (which involves hours of driving south of Perth to Margaret River). We stayed in central Perth throughout the 6 days and took short drives to Swan Valley, Fremantle and Perth’s suburbs to sightsee and shop. None of the trips took more than 30 minutes, so if you are travelling with children who cannot take or get used to long drives, I think this itinerary will meet your needs.
Day 1: Arrival at Perth
We took a morning Singapore Airlines flight to Perth to coincide with our toddler’s nap schedule – we got at least a 1.5 hour of rest as he slept comfortably in the bassinet. There are regular 2-to-go fares with Singapore Airlines to Perth and couple that with ZUJI hot deals, you will enjoy quite a bit of savings. The current 2016 summer ZUJI hot deal is very attractive. You receive S$50 ZUJI vouchers when you apply for the American Express® True Cashback Card through ZUJI and enjoy a 3% rebate (up to first $5000 within first 3 months) when you utilize the card. On top of that, you will get an additional 6% flight/package rebate for 2-to-go (bookings with 2 or more pax) and a 5% flight/package rebate for 1-to-go (solo travelers) when you make your booking on ZUJI – this means that you can receive at least 8% rebate in total!
Upon waking up, our toddler is full of energy for the remaining 3-4 hour flight so we had to keep him entertained – thankfully, the bassinet area is large enough for him to explore.
We arrived at around 3pm and checked into our Verandah apartments at around 5pm after securing our Perth rental car. Do ensure that you rent the right car with sufficient boot storage for your luggage and the right child seat and most importantly, GPS.
Our apartment is a 2-bedroom with 2-bathroom configuration – there is a spacious living area and an open kitchen. First thing we did was to child-proof the apartment by moving away tables and blocking off the kitchen from the toddler. This Verandah apartment is great value for money – we paid only about $208 per night for 4 persons (2 ensuite bedrooms). This works out to about $50 per person per night and the location is in Perth Northbridge (just a 5 minute drive from Perth CBD)! We enjoyed a 12% hotel discount as we booked during a ZUJI hot deal. With the ZUJI and American Express deal I mentioned above, you can also enjoy a 12% hotel coupon code (no minimum spend required) on ZUJI, in addition to the 3% American Express True Cashback credit card rebate!
We then had dinner at Taka – a Japanese restaurant in Perth CBD at 150-152 Barrack Street and grocery shopping at IGA Northbridge supermarket.
Day 2: Swan Valley Caversham Wildlife Park and Surroundings
This is a day out to the Swan Valley – a 30-minute drive from Perth. One of the attractions of Swan Valley is the Caversham Wildlife Park, where you can catch a farm show (must-see with sheep-shearing and audience interaction segments), feed kangaroos and get up close with the lazy koalas. There are certain timings available for farm show as well as to meet wombat & friends. I have bolded the timings that you can catch these shows if you are travelling with children (factoring time for them to wake up, prepare their food, drive to Swan Valley, nap time and lunch):
- Farm Show: 10.00am, 1.00pm, 3.00pm
- Meet The Koalas: 10.00am to 1.00pm; 2.30pm to 4.30pm
- Meet Wombat & Friends: 11.00am, 2.00pm, 3.45pm
- Feed The Kangaroos: 9.00am – 5.30pm
- Molly’s Farm: 9.30am to 4.30pm
Adult Admission: $27.00
If you have time after Caversham Wildlife Park, you can check out other places in the Swan Valley – Oggies Ice Cream, Morish Nuts, Mondo Nougat and Whistler’s Chocolate Company (there is a playground at the premises) or do some shopping at Midland Gate Shopping Centre with Kmart, Target, Best & Less and more.
Day 3: Watertown Outlet Mall + King’s Park Playgrounds
It is more playtime for the kid today but before that, we did some outlet shopping at Watertown Outlet Mall, which was just a convenient 6-minute drive from our apartment.
Then it is off to the King’s Park Lotterywest Family Area (suitable for toddlers 1 to 2 years old).
There is another big playground in King’s Park called Synergy Parklands (just an 8 minute drive from Lotterywest Family area) – it is more for children who can run about (3 years old and above), not for toddlers who are just starting to walk.
After an afternoon of fun, it is time for more shopping – we drove to Belmont Forum (about 18 minutes drive away from King’s Park to a Perth suburb) – here you will find Target, Coles and a lot of great shopping opportunities at affordable prices.
Day 4: Fremantle Market and Fish & Chips
It is Saturday – you must go to Fremantle (just 30 minutes away). Fremantle is best experienced over the weekend with the Fremantle market. There are lots of things to buy from souvenir to snacks and various knick-knacks. There is also a dedicated section for fresh produce – fruits and vegetable as well as a food court selling different types of food.
After Fremantle market, go for a Fish & Chips lunch at Cicerello’s Seafood Restaurant.
Day 5: Perth CBD Murray and Hay Street Mall
It is Sunday today – do note that most shops (almost all in fact) open at 11am and close at 5pm. There is a Perth Sunday Market at Murray Street Mall from 11:00am to 4:00pm. You can also walk around Hay and Murray Street Malls – go to Target for affordable shopping.
Also you should go London Court – beautiful setting for photo-taking.
Try pastries at Miss Maud’s too – highly recommend the Princess Cake – the one in green in the picture below.
Another suburban mall you can go to is Park Avenue – a huge Target store and Coles there too (15 minutes drive from Central Perth)
The Park Avenue
Albany Highway
East Victoria Park, WA, 6101
Day 6: Return Home to Singapore
In summary, I felt that this itinerary has a good mix of sightseeing and shopping and the driving time was also very manageable.
You may also consider booking your Perth hotels at HotelCombined.com

27 June, 2016 at 11:18 pmI would love to win the zuji vouchers for my upcoming honeymoon! One advice on the GPS though, you can actually save money by not renting the GPS. Instead, the new google map on mobile phone allows users to download offline map. You can then use that to navigate in Perth or anywhere on Earth!(assuming google map covers it of course) GPS does not tap on data plan and it’s free.
