Weekend Shopping Getaway at Bangkok Thailand
6 March, 2011Our weekend trip to Bangkok (17 Feb to 20 Feb) went beyond eating and shopping for a Bargain Holiday – 2 of the most common reasons Singaporeans visit this exciting and vibrant City of Angels – one part of Bangkok’s very long name: “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Phiman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit” which translates to “The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarma”
Thankfully we did not have to recite the full name of Bangkok and could focus on the fun stuff which we will be sharing more on in the next few posts (the following will be updated with links when the respective posts are up):
Day 1
- Pampering ourselves with VIE Hotel Bangkok’s Deep Sleep Package – includes an upgrade to the Deluxe Suite in this new 2-year old boutique hotel and various amenities to help us sleep better
- Engaging the experienced Paul’s Fashion at Amari Watergate Hotel to tailor-make my suit, shirt and pants
- Shopping the afternoon away at Platinum Mall’s wholesale fashion shops
- Enjoying the awesome mind-blowing performances at Calypso Cabaret
Day 2
- More shopping at the narrow alleys of Pratunam Market
- Rubbing shoulders with Obama and Michael Jackson at Bangkok Madame Tussauds
- Accessory shopping at Chinatown Sampeng Lane
- Enjoying yummy and cheap seafood at the famous T&K Seafood stall (open only after 6pm) and great Bird’s Nest at Namsin Seafood
Day 3 and 4
- Checking into Shanghai Mansion with its exquisitely-designed Oriental architecture
- Exploring and Eating our way through the Amphawa Floating Market and Trainspotting at Meklong Railway Market
- Shopping Mania at Chatuchak Market

29 May, 2011 at 10:27 pmGoing to Bangkok without you shopping? That’s terrible. If you are planning to go to Bangkok, you might as well be thinking of shopping to complete your escapade. You don’t have to bring lots of cash because shopping there is not that expensive compared to other destinations. You can get everything you have glanced at without having to worry if you have spent all your cash. Why? The price of anything from foods to clothing are just so reasonably-priced you would probably wish to stay there all your life.

1 September, 2012 at 11:18 pmDear all, I’m just like everyone in S’pore who love to visit Thailand for a short gateway. My trips to Bangkok was good except the recent one. Had a very bad encounter with a tailor shop, Newman Exclusive located at the 2nd level of Amari Watergate Hotel. They are all con men & liar. Their service attitude changed 180 degree once deposit has made. No follow-up was done to my clothes & showed me one kind of face. They disgraced the lovely country & the rotten apple who spoil the name of Thailand. Please share with your friends..
